A Conceptual Design
My Role: Conceptual Stage Design, Costume Design, Light Design
Set in Ukraine’s Donbas region during the 2014 war, the play follows Pasha on a three-day journey to rescue his nephew. The story is a powerful character study of an apolitical man who finds his political voice and courage amidst danger, trauma, and painful realizations.
My design concept centers on a single, evocative element: bundles of mattresses and blankets. These bundles, scattered across the stage, serve as islands of temporary comfort against the harsh reality of war. The mix of collected patterns and fabrics speaks to the urgency and scarcity of a people seeking refuge. This visual metaphor underscores the play’s themes of displacement, survival, and the search for safety in a conflict zone.
