NATALIE GIANNOPOULOS

A collaborative multimedia dance performance exploring identity, reflection and the gender-binary. Created during an artist residency at Ausland e.V. Berlin.

In collaboration with performer Maria Karamoutsiou (@maroukaramou), we created an immersive journey through movement and light. The performance begins in an intimate indoor space before spilling out into the public realm, inviting the audience on a collective exploration of self. The piece is built on the dynamic interplay between movement, video art, and audience interaction.

As co-creator, my role was to weave together the dramaturgy, stage, and lighting design into a cohesive narrative. The stage materials were chosen to act as reflections, offering the performer a space for nuanced interaction. A key element was the duochrome makeup, which, when paired with live-operated lighting, allowed the performer to shift between two distinct identities in real-time. This visual effect, along with the custom-filmed video art, created a world of perpetual transformation, where light and movement were in constant conversation. Everything, including the video art, was created on-site during the 10-day residency.

The performance was later adapted and presented at the 48h Neukölln art festival in 2025, on the stage of Polymedialer Ponyhof.
